CLASSICAL PIANO
Syllabus 2025

General Rules:
All selections must be from the current RCM or CC syllabi – classical piano only. All selections must be played from memory. If a competitor is entering more than one class, all entries must be at the SAME grade level.


NO photocopies will be allowed, and will immediately face disqualification. Same with no music brought to the festival, will also be treated with immediate disqualification.
 

*NEW THIS YEAR* Associate / Diploma / Open classes have been replace with “Advanced” classes. Repertoire should be chosen from the Associate / Diploma (ARCT) levels or higher (LRCM).


Baroque Piano Solo (List A)
One selection from either the current RCM (List A) or CC syllabi from the Baroque era.

 

Classical Piano Solo (List B)
One selection from either the current RCM (List B) or CC syllabi from the Classical era. Multi - movement Sonatinas and Sonatas are to be played as listed in the RCM or CC syllabus for that grade/level.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Romantic, Post Romantic and Early 20 th Century Piano Solo (List C)
One selection from either the current RCM (LIST C) or CC syllabi from the Romantic, Post - Romantic or early 20 th century (prior to 1950) era. Canadian works should be entered in Canadian Composer Piano Solo classes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Late 20 th Century (List D) 
One selection from either the current RCM (List C) or CC syllabi from the late 20 th century and 21 st century. NO POPULAR MUSIC PERMITTED – ONLY CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE. Contemporary selections should be entered in Contemporary Piano Solo category.

 

 

 

 

Late 21 st Century Piano Solo (List E)

One selection from either the current RCM (List C) or CC syllabi from the late 20 th century and 21 st century. NO POPULAR MUSIC PERMITTED – ONLY CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE. Contemporary selections should be entered in Contemporary Piano Solo category.

Etudes / Studies – Classical Piano (List F)
Own choice, one selection of an etude from the RCM or CC list.

 

 

 

 

Classical Piano Duet
Own choice, one selection. One piano, four hands. Selections must be from the classical repertoire. Age should be averaged between both pianists for the class.

 

 

Concert Class – Classical Piano
Two contrasting selections. Both pieces should be from the same grade level and chosen from the RCM or CC syllabi. Only one movement should be played from a multi-movement work.
Both pieces should be memorized. Please be aware of time limits.
